What is a Thematic Axis Partnership?
A Thematic Axis Partnership is a voluntary form of scientific collaboration through which researchers and academic collectives contribute to the development of one of the permanent thematic axes of #Cultures 2027.
The partnership is intended to expand the international and interdisciplinary composition of the congress, strengthen dialogue between institutions and research communities, and create opportunities for the collaborative development of academic activities.
It does not constitute an employment relationship or involve financial remuneration. Participation is based on academic cooperation, institutional recognition and shared scientific engagement.
Who may apply?
Applications may be submitted by researchers and scientific collectives working in areas related to the congress. Eligible applicants include:
- Individual researchers.
- Research groups and laboratories.
- Graduate and postgraduate programmes.
- University departments and academic centres.
- Scientific associations and academic networks.
- Interdisciplinary and international research collectives.
- Cultural and educational organisations with relevant research activities.
Each proposal may include up to ten researchers, who must be identified in the application form and associated with the selected thematic axis.
The eight thematic axes
Applicants must select the axis that most closely corresponds to their research, teaching, professional or institutional experience:
- Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development
- Cultural Diversity, Human Rights and Inclusion
- Cultural Territories, Education and Sustainability
- Technology, Digital Culture and Social Innovation
- Borders, Migrations, Diasporas and Identities
- Cultural Management, Organisations and Entrepreneurship
- Memory, Heritage and Musealisation
- Arts, Performances, Communication and Cultural Practices
The complete scope, topics and possible approaches of each axis are available on the official Thematic Axes page.
Forms of participation
Selected partners will be invited to collaborate in the scientific development of the chosen axis. Their participation may include:
- Joining the Scientific Committee of the selected thematic axis.
- Contributing to the international and interdisciplinary development of the axis.
- Supporting the dissemination of the congress and its calls through academic and institutional networks.
- Encouraging the submission of contributions related to the axis.
- Collaborating, when requested, with the scientific evaluation of submissions.
- Participating in meetings and scientific coordination activities connected to the axis.
- Proposing an academic activity for inclusion in the congress programme.
Proposal of an academic activity
Every partnership application must include a proposal for an academic activity related to the selected thematic axis.
Depending on its objectives and format, the proposed activity may take the form of a panel, round table, conference, thematic dialogue, workshop, interview, artistic-academic activity or another compatible online initiative.
The proposal should identify its title, focus, relevance, suggested participants and relationship with the thematic axis. Submission of an activity does not automatically guarantee its inclusion in the final programme.
The organising institutions may request adjustments, recommend the combination of related proposals or suggest an alternative format in order to ensure balance, feasibility and coherence within the congress programme.
Evaluation process
Complete applications will be evaluated continuously according to the academic profile of the applicants, the relationship between the proposal and the selected thematic axis, the quality and feasibility of the proposed activity, and the potential contribution to the international scientific network of #Cultures 2027.
Applicants should normally receive a decision within 15 working days after submitting a complete proposal. Applications requiring additional information may take longer to process.
Application Schedule:
- Applications open: 15 July 2026
- First round: Applications submitted by 31 August 2026
- Continuous decisions: Normally within 15 working days after submission
- Final application deadline: 30 September 2026
